Regis & Kelly Show (Live) January 10th, 2002
Regis: Our next guest, currently appearing the action adventure hit and box office smash, Lord of The Rings, here's Orlando Bloom. Orli comes out, shakes hands etc etc and then sits down. Regis: Orlando Blo-- Orlando's from England, and he plays one of the elf..elves...in... Kelly: You look so different in the movie.. Orlando: It's the long blonde hair, I think. Kelly: Yes!... Cut to a shot of Legolas at the Council of Elrond Regis: Which elf do you play? Orlando: I play Legolas. Regis: Legolas. What's he..? Kelly: Legless? Orlando: (smiles) Yes, Legless..Legolas..LEGOLAS..yeah. Regis: What's he like? Orlando: Legolas is basically a warrior elf..he is representing the elves in the Fellowship, and the Fellowship is made up of nine characters that go on a journey to destroy this evil ring of power..um..the ring needs to be destroyed, it's carried by Frodo, who is played by Elijah Wood... Regis: Yeah, we've had him on the show...Ian McKellen's been here... Kelly: ...who is a hobbit, not to be confused with an elf... Orlando: That's right, yeah...I'm the only elf in the Fellowship...and elves are kinda tall and slender, they have these superhuman qualities...superhuman strength, reflex speed...their senses are all really heightened, so it's kinda like they're these angelic spirits, with qualities that no other human could have..and it kinda made for a really interesting experience... Regis: It was a very physical role wasn't it? Orlando: Yeah, it was incredibly physical. I mean, I came to New Zealand two months prior to filming, and the first thing they did was give me a bow and said here's a bow, get training, so for two months I was like, firing at a target and, they had these big plastic animals I was firing at, it was like 'fire at the head, at the stomach'..it was crazy... Regis: You got pretty good, I'll bet... Orlando: Yeah, by the end of it, he'd weighted paper plates and I'd go pull and he'd through them into the air and I'd be popping them out (smiles), so I got pretty good, which was really good... Kelly motions to her arm, as if she wanted to talk about his tattoo, but get's interrupted by Regis. Regis: How old are you, Orlando? Orlando: (excited) 25...in January, on the 13th of January... Regis: Coming up! In a couple of days...25 years old! Kelly: Oh my god! Audience cheers etc Kelly: (points to her arm) Did you see?...on his arm he has one of... Regis: (looks at Orli's arm) What does he have on there? Orlando: (extends his arm and pulls up his sleeve) I have a Fellowship tattoo (trying to hide it and show it and the same time) Regis: Let me see what it looks like... Orlando: (seems sorta shy about it) Yeah, I wish I could... Regis: I want one of these... Orlando: The thing is I can't..I'm not supposed to show it to anyone, because it's kind of like, the nine in the Fellowship had a tattoo done, and it was kinda like, the movie is for everyone else and the tattoos were for us. Regis: Oh okay... Kelly: Okay, so we can't see it, but... Orlando: I tell ya a secret though... Kelly: (interrupting) You know, you should've put yours where everybody else put theirs... Orli kinda smugly shys back, holding his arm, smiling. Kelly: And we saw those too... Orlando: (knowing she's bullshitting) No you didn't! They all laugh. Orlando: I'll tell ya what else, though. We were in New Zealand just now for the release of The Lord of The Rings, and I got Peter...Peter Jackson, the director..Barry Osbourne, who's one of the producers..Mark Ordeski, who was one of the executives at New Line and Richard Taylor, who is the head of Weta, the special effects company that Peter owns in New Zealand, I got them all a tattoo saying '10'. Well, we all got..the Fellowship, we organised it and they got '10' tattooed on them, so they're like the tenth member of the Fellowship, coz we were like, they've just been so amazing and, so now it was like there was nine in the Fellowship and the tenth members... Regis: It was like a bonding experience.. Orlando: (happily) It is! That's kinda what it is... Regis: (points to Kelly's ankle) You see this on here? Orlando: (moving closer to look at Kelly's tattoo on her ankle) Yeah, I was just looking at that. Regis: (about the tattoo) It's a snake being crushed by a rose. They laugh, and Kelly whacks Regis with the papers that she is holding. Orlando: That's cute... Regis: We gotta pause here, Orlando, we'll be right back. Orlando Bloom!... ADS Open to black and white camera showing Jennifer Tilly putting on Kelly's clothes backstage in her dressing room. Kelly: Is that Jennifer Tilly? Regis: Everyone's in her dressing room now! Tell 'em these peepholes are paying off. Crowd laughs. Kelly: (Orli laughs) Get her out! Regis: She's trying on your clothes now... Kelly: This is horrible! Oh my god! Regis: (looking at Orli) A lot going on there..that's a better show than we got! Orlando: (nodding his head) That's true. Regis: So, Orlando Bloom, very hot right now. Lord of The Rings, and another hot movie that's gonna go nationwide soon, Black Hawk Down. You play one of the soliders in that? Orlando: Yeah. (crowd claps) Thank you. Um, I play Private First Class Blackburn, and he is like, the youngest, greenest of the rangers. He's really hungry to get out there and do his bit and fight for his country..and he's kind of the beginning of the end, in terms of that mission. He's the first man down, he falls from a helicopter, breaks his back, has this terrible injury..the ranger code of conduct is you never leave a man fallen or down, so they have to get him out of there, and that leads to..they're already under incredible fire, and taking injuries left, right and centre and to suddenly have to deal with a man, and carrying him out and it kind of leads to the beginning of the end. Regis: And it's non-stop action, they say, from the beginning right to the end. Orlando: (nods) It certainly is. Regis: Ridley Scott's a wonderful director. Orlando: He's fantastic, yeah. Regis: So all of a sudden here you are, Orlando Bloom. You're hotter than anybody! Orlando: (not quite believing it himself) Yeah, it's crazy isn't it? Regis: Has this been a good year for you, or was something been leading up to this..? You're here all of a sudden...ya know what I'm saying? Orlando: Yeah, it's surreal, what can I tell you? I mean, two..I got Lord of The Rings two days before I finished training at drama school, I'd been training for three years, and I'd had a pretty intense three years of training..I'd broken my back the year prior to leaving drama school, so the year before I went out to Lord of The Rings, I'd broken my back and having a kinda near death experience like that..coz I fell three floors and I was gonna be in a wheelchair but they managed to put me back together again, it kinda gave a new perspective on life..you know, a new appreciation and kind of..it was the best thing for me in a lot of ways... Regis: And it's paying off right now. Orlando: Yeah.. Kelly: Meant to be... Orlando: Yeah definetly. (He goes to say more, but Regis cuts him off) Regis: Lord of The Rings and Black Hawk Down...it's gonna be opening soon all over the country. Orlando, it's great to have you on the show..(shakes Orli's hand) Orlando: Thank you. (shakes Kelly's hand) Regis: Good guy..Orlando Bloom (crowd cheers and claps etc). We'll be back... |
